MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The head of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov suggested Friday to suspend Russian passenger flights to Egypt until the reasons behind the recent plane crash in Sinai are clear.
"Until the real reasons behind what happened are defined, I find it appropriate to suspend Russian flights to Egypt. This concerns, first of all, the tourist channel," Bortnikov said during an extraordinary meeting of Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee.
"I emphasize once again, the necessary samples have been taken from all the elements that can carry traces of explosives. All the samples have been taken to Moscow, and are currently being carefully studied. This work involves the best, most highly trained specialists, the most modern technical equipment. I can say with the utmost certainty that if there are traces of explosives, they will definitely be found," he said.
Bortnikov underscored that the investigation needs to be thorough and continue for as long as necessary.
