MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed with Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov's recommendation to suspend passenger flights to Egypt until the results of the official investigation into the Sinai plane crash are published.
"In connection with the the National Anti-Terrorist Committee decree…. Airline Kogalymavia suspends the flight program to the airports of Arab Republic of Egypt. The ban does not extend to flight operations in Egypt for the purpose of passengers' departure," the company said in a statement.
Last week, the Russian Kogalymavia airliner, carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members, crashed in the Sinai Peninsula en route from the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. All people on board, including 25 children, were confirmed dead by Russian and Egyptian authorities. The incident has become the biggest tragedy in Russian and Soviet civil aviation history.
