PARIS (Sputnik) — According to the French ministry, the targets of the two airstrikes, launched overnight, were oil pumping stations in neighborhoods of the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor.
"Our objective is to weaken the financial potential of IS by disrupting operation of oil facilities in the areas that are controlled by the terrorist group," the ministry said in a statement.
On September 27, Paris began conducting anti-ISIL airstrikes, joining a US-led coalition of 60 NATO and Arab countries that is operating without UN Security Council or Syrian government approval.
French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian announced earlier that Paris has carried out a second wave of airstrikes in Syria, destroying a terrorist training camp.
