The talks with the top brass of the Korean People’s Army are scheduled to start on Wednesday, North Korea’s state-run Central News Agency reported without specifying the topic of the upcoming negotiations.
Political analysts believe the talks may focus on signing an agreement on the prevention of dangerous military activities.
A draft agreement between Russia and North Korea on the prevention of dangerous military activities has already been approved by the Russian government.
South Korean and Western media earlier reported that North Korea was digging a new tunnel at its nuclear test site with the aim of conducting more tests of atomic devices in the future.
Pyongyang has been steadily working on its nuclear program, particularly after it agreed with South Korea in August to work toward easing tensions on the peninsula and improving ties.
