MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war, the United States and its allies have provided military to opposition factions they consider to be "moderate," and have called for President Bashar Assad to resign.
"There is a billion light-years between the concept that is written in the law enforcement agencies of the United States and what it turns out ‘on the ground’ in the Middle East. When the supply of arms to these ‘good guys’ begins, no one can guarantee that tomorrow it will not be resold to thugs-cannibals," she told Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda daily in an interview on Tuesday.
There is even confidence in the probability of such a scenario, since a similar scheme has already been implemented in a number of states, Zakharova added.
"With the Western money, a militant group is created, supplied with weapons, then it carries out the things its sponsors conceived. However, the next day, when the regime in the country is changed, it has absolutely no intention to return this weapon back to anyone," the ministry’s spokeswoman outlined.
In early November, a US Department of Defense spokesperson said the US military will continue re-arming anti-Islamic State rebel forces in Syria, because it was encouraged by how the fighters have used munitions in most recent offensives.
In October, the United States airdropped 50 tons of small arms ammunition to the Syrian Arab Coalition.
