The UK prime minister’s proposals to reform the European Union are beneficial for all the bloc’s members, the president of the New Flemish Alliance and the mayor of Antwerp said Wednesday.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – The center-right nationalist party headed by Bart De Wever stands for the peaceful and gradual secession of the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders from Belgium.

"[David] Cameron’s vision is beneficial not only for the United Kingdom, but for the whole European Union, and, consequently, for Flanders," De Wever stated in a statement.

According to him, solutions proposed by the European Union too often bring more problems instead of the required relief.

The remarks come a day after Cameron sent European Council President Donald Tusk a letter laying out his EU reform requirements, formally launching a campaign to renegotiate Britain’s EU membership.

Among the demands voiced by the UK prime minister was the exemption of London from the commitment to "ever-closer union," as well as protection from Eurozone integration, enabling EU countries to control migration and introduction of improvements in competitiveness.

Britain’s exit from the European Union – the so-called Brexit – will be voted on in a referendum by the end of 2017, as promised by Cameron during the pre-election campaign in spring.
