Claims by US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter that Russia is challenging the "international order" mean that Moscow refuses "to bend the knee to US domination and hegemony," US journalist John Wight wrote in his article for RT.

'Russian Threat': An Excuse for Pentagon's Expensive Nuclear Modernization
Earlier, Carter said that Russia and China are potential threats to the international order. He also accused Moscow of "nuclear saber-rattling" and violating sovereignty in Ukraine and Georgia.

According to the author, Carter’s claims that "Russia has been violating sovereignty in Ukraine and Georgia" say that "he is clearly suffering from an acute case of cognitive dissonance."

"In other words the spectacles through which he understands the world need to be changed for a pair that will afford him a clear view and understanding rather than a distorted one," he wrote.

Wight pointed out that the international order described by the US is nothing but American dominance and hegemony.

"What they call stability is in reality submission to Washington. And what they describe as a threat to peace is in fact resistance to the chaos wrought after a decade of the US and its allies rampaging around the globe like a juggernaut of destruction," the article read.

According to the journalist, Russia and China are not seeking supremacy or domination. They are instead seeking partnership, cooperation and parity.

He added that challenging the current state of global affairs is not a case of saber-rattling but a necessity in order to stem the deepening instability and proliferation of terrorism.

Pentagon: US Doesn't Seek War With Russia, Ready to Defend Self-Interest
When an empire is challenged it deploys not only military force but also intimidation in response, the article read. It tries to paint itself as the side whose rights are being violated, with those resisting depicted as a threat to peace and security.

Wight added that struggle for supremacy and hegemony leads to the destruction of entire nations and cultures as well as the suffering of tens of millions of people, as it happened in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.
