MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Kathimerini newspaper, the walk-outs in several Greek cities were organized by several trade unions, discontent with the upcoming changes to social security and taxation.

Civil servants, transport workers, tax officers, doctors, teachers, pharmacists, bank employees, workers in local government, judicial officials, engineers and archaeological sites and museums guards are among those who have said they will take part in the strike, the newspaper claimed. Several flights and various means of public transport have been cancelled.

On Wednesday, the ruling Syriza party's labor policy department urged the Greeks to take part in a general strike against the government’s austerity policies.
Under the agreement with Greece’s international creditors signed by the Syriza leader, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the country committed to austerity measures and to coordinate its actions in the economic sphere with its lenders in exchange for a 86-billion-euro ($94.8 billion) aid program.
