The United States seeks to adjust its air transport safety procedures based on the results of the investigation into the Russian Airbus A321 plane crash in Egypt, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a briefing on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On October 31, Russia’s Metrojet A321 passenger plane crashed soon after takeoff while flying from the Egyptian resort city Sharm El-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. Al 224 passengers on board the aircraft have been confirmed dead.

"We are certainly interested in understanding as much as we can about what exactly happened [with the Russian plane], so that we can adjust our security posture as necessary to ensure the safety of the travelling public," Earnest stated.

He added that the lines of communication with Russia and Egypt regarding the A321 crash "remain open."

Russia, along with the United Kingdom and other countries, has suspended flights to Egypt following the incident after several intelligence services have suggested that terrorists may have planted a bomb onboard the Russian aircraft.
