US Secretary of State John Kerry will hold bilateral meetings on resolving the Syrian crisis with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as well as with the UN special envoy for Syria on Friday, US Department of State spokesperson Mark Toner said in a briefing.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On October 30, top diplomats from some 20 countries gathered for talks on Syrian crisis reconciliation in Vienna, Austria.

The diplomats worked out a nine-point plan on ending the Syrian civil war, including a mutually agreed definition of national unity, the defeat of extremist groups and assistance to refugees.

"In Vienna this evening, the secretary [Kerry] will hold bilateral meetings with Saudi Foreign Minister al-Jubeir, Turkish Foreign Minister Sinirlioglu, as well as UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria in advance of tomorrow’s larger multilateral ministerial," Toner stated.

The next round of talks will be held on Saturday in Vienna, where participants will try to agree on the list of representatives with whom the group may hold further talks.

On Thursday, the White House said it anticipates some progress during the upcoming multilateral negotiations, but does not think a breakthrough will be possible at present.
