MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde during the upcoming G20 summit in Turkey, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.
"A meeting with Lagarde is being planned," Peskov told reporters.
The spokesman did not clarify whether Putin and Lagarde planned to discuss Ukraine’s outstanding debt to Russia. Kiev is scheduled to repay Russia $3 billion in Eurobonds by December 2015.
"This is a matter of sovereign debt. Failure to pay will mean a default situation," Peskov explained.
Announcing the restructuring of $15 billion of Ukraine's debt hours earlier, Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko warned of the possibility of default if the payment was not made. Ukraine is deadlocked on the remaining $3 billion it owes to Russia.
This year, the IMF arranged a $40-billion bailout program for Ukraine, which has an estimated public debt of $70 billion.
