MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Vladimir Putin will discuss with Chinese leader Xi Jinping the situations in Syria and on the Korean Peninsula.
“A traditional meeting with the head of China will be held on November 15 at 5:00 in the evening. Putin will use all his opportunities to meet with the Chinese leader. We meet in a bilateral format at all international events,” Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov said during a briefing.
During the G20 Summit leaders will discuss methods in the fight against terrorism as well as refugees from countries controlled by militants,the aide said.
“Global challenges will be discussed, in particular terrorism and the refugee crisis. During lunch, threats coming from terrorist organizations, first and foremost from the Islamic State, will be discussed, as well as the potential methods in cooperating in the fight against them.”
Vladimir Putin and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde will hold a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit to discuss the settling of Ukraine's debt to Russia.
"On November 15, a meeting between our president and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde is planned. During this meeting, the situation surrounding the settlement of Ukraine's debt to Russia will be discussed," Ushakov told reporters.
Leaders of the G20 countries will discuss a reform of the International Monetary Fund and various energy issues.
The summit's first working session will focus on inclusive growth, global economy and employment, Ushakov said.
"It will be devoted to the discussion of the current macroeconomic situation in the world; possibilities to promote development, including in terms of attracting investments for large infrastructure projects; reducing unemployment, and so on."
The discussion of economic matters will continue on the second day of the summit, he added. In particular, the leaders will discuss an IMF reform and ensuring global economic stability, according to the presidential aide.
The Russian president will also meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"A traditional meeting between our President and German Chancellor Merkel [is planned]. It will be the sixth meeting this year. I also wish to note that 22 phone calls were carried out this year."
"We expect that some bilateral cooperation issues will be discussed, as well as current international issues, not only Ukraine, but Syria too," he added.
No official meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Barack Obama is planned for the G20 summit in Turkey, but the two leaders could still meet.
"Formally, a meeting at the G20 summit in Antalya has not been agreed, but it cannot be excluded that the presidents will be able to speak during joint, including ceremonial events in the framework of the G20 summit program."
The presidents of Russia and Turkey are expected to discuss energy and the Syrian crisis.
During a meeting with UK Prime Minister David Cameron the Russian president will raise the issue of Ukraine and Syria.
“There will be a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Cameron. Putin met with Cameron in Brisbane [Australia] on November 15 last year, and they’ve had several telephone conversations this year, and contacts have just started to become more active,”Ushakov said.
“We expect an exchange of views on the Syrian settlement and the situation in Ukraine among international topics.”
Putin will also hold talks with Saudi Arabia's King Salman.
"During the summit, President Vladimir Putin has a bilateral meeting scheduled with the King of Saudi Arabia," Ushakov told reporters.
Putin will chair a BRICS meeting on November 15 on the eve of the G20 Summit, according to the aide.
“Ahead of the G20 Summit, there will be a meeting with the leaders of the BRICS countries that is scheduled on November 15 before the ceremonial opening of the summit,” he said.
