LONDON (Sputnik) — On November 4, the UK government banned all flights between the Egyptian resort city and airports in England and introduced additional security measures over mounting evidence that the crashed Russian A321 passenger plane may have been brought down by a bomb on board.
"[British airlines] have assured us that they have sufficient capacity to return all British tourists to the UK by Tuesday 17 November 2015," the statement read.
There were about 20,000 of British tourists in Sharm el-Sheikh when air service between the United Kingdom and the Red Sea resort was suspended.
The Airbus A321 crashed en route from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg on October 31, killing all 224 people on board. The tragedy is the largest in civil aviation disaster in Russian history.
