MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia has expressed keen interest in reaching a comprehensive agreement aimed at reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions during the UN climate change conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"The Paris Climate Change Conference will take place soon, in December. This conference will try to reach a global agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Russia wants to see this work succeed and we have already presented our report on our country’s contribution to these efforts," the president said in an address to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit that will take place on November 18-19 in Manila.
From November 30 to December 11, France is scheduled to host and chair the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The event is expected to result in the signing of a global agreement on climate change, introducing a legally binding and universal strategy on the issue.
