MANILA (Sputnik), Anastasia Levchenko – Indonesia can join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal not earlier than in one or two years, a delegate from Indonesia's trade ministry at the APEC Ministerial Meeting in Manila told Sputnik on Monday.
"We are still studying the benefits of the TPP, as there are a lot of regulations in the agreement that we need to meet. It takes time. It will probably take one or two years," Mohamad Iqbal Djamil, from the APEC Directorate at Indonesia's Ministry of Trade, said.
Indonesian participation to the Washington-backed trade pact between 12 Pacific Rim nations has been widely expected during the ongoing APEC Economic Leaders' week.
Manila is currently hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Week, bringing together senior officials and members of business to discuss significant issues of multilateral cooperation in the region.
