UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – Earlier, the Yonhap news agency reported that Ban would be visiting North Korea this week.
"The Secretary-General has always said that he is ready to play any role in order to help enhance dialogue, stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula. As for any future plans by the Secretary-General to travel to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, we have no further comment at this time," the United Nations said in a statement Sunday.
Ban was supposed to visit North Korea in May to hold talks with several officials. However, Pyongyang made a last-minute decision to now allow the UN chief to enter.
South and North Korea remain legally at war since the 1953 end of the Korean War and the signing of an armistice.
