"The Worcester Police Department will enhance regular patrols near key locations around the city… [and] maintain heightened awareness of any potential suspicious activity in the area," the release stated on Monday.
On Saturday, a group of thieves broke into the Worcester Army Reserve Center without setting off any alarms, and stole more than a dozen guns, including six M4 assault rifles, among other weaponry.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has told local media it does not believe the incident is related to any terrorist threat.
"A Worcester police officer assigned full-time to the FBI is coordinating our participation in the investigation," the statement noted.
The police said it has encouraged the public to alert law enforcement if they have any information about this case.
