WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Marine Corps have sent more security personnel to guard the US Embassy in Paris following Friday’s terrorist attacks carried out across the French capital, according to US media reports.
"As a result of the terrorist attacks in Paris, and at the request of the Department of State, the Marine Corps completed a movement of a Marine Security Augmentation Unit (MSAU) to Europe," The Marine Corps Times reported Marine spokesperson Maj. Chris Devine as saying on Tuesday.
Devine added that the Marines stand ready "to provide additional security support to diplomatic facilities when requested by the US ambassador or Department of State."
Last Friday evening, terrorists attacked several venues around Paris, killing at least 132 people and injuring 350 more at six locations, including restaurants, the Bataclan concert hall and in the vicinity of the Stade de France stadium. The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attacks.
