Activists have taken to the streets in Minneapolis following the police shooting of an unarmed black man on Sunday. Witnesses insist he was handcuffed when the single shot was fired into his face, but police claim their investigation has found he was unrestrained at the time of the incident.

Jamar Clark, 24, was shot over his left eye and remains on life support.

Activists and community members camped out overnight outside the police department demanding the officer’s name and for the video of the incident to be released.

The police had been called over a report of an assault, and claim that Clark was interfering with paramedics who were treating the victim. A struggle ensued between Clark and the police, and he would ultimately be shot in the face. Police have released few other details.

Witnesses say that a large crowd was present during the shooting, and began to push towards police after the shooting, leading to some being pepper sprayed.

"We have been saying for a significant amount of time that Minneapolis is one bullet away from Ferguson," Jason Sole, chair of the Minneapolis NAACP's criminal justice committee stated on Sunday. "That bullet was fired last night. We want justice immediately," he told Minnesota Public Radio News.

The two officers involved have been placed on paid leave and it remains unclear if they were wearing body cameras.

"The family is heartbroken and traumatized by the whole event," Clark’s nephew, 22-year-old Martez McKnight, told The Associated Press.
