MOSCOW (Sputnik) – No agreements have been made in regard to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s not participating in the political settlement in Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.
“There are no agreements that President Assad should not participate in the future political settlement in Syria, there weren’t [any agreements] during talks in Vienna,” Lavrov said during a joint press conference with Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil in Moscow.
At the same time, Moscow hopes that the political process of settling the Syrian crisis will begin at the target date at the beginning of January 2016, Lavrov said.
“This is not an ultimatum date, this is an approximate date [of January 1, 2016],” Lavrov said during a joint press conference with Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil in Moscow.
