MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble suggested that German soldiers might patrol streets alongside police officers as a precautionary measure against terror attacks.
"We are totally against that. Our Constitution forbids it. Only the police can do the work of the police," DPolG president Rainer Wendt said, as quoted by The Local news portal.
Schaeuble “ought to stick to his financial work,” Wendt stressed adding that the finance minister should ensure that police are supplied with resources “they need,” according to the media outlet.
The finance minister’s suggestion came after Friday deadly terrorist attacks in Paris that killed 129 people.
