TOKYO (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, Russian Federal Security Service head Alexander Bortnikov confirmed that the A321 plane was blown up in midair due to a home-made bomb placed aboard.

On October 31, a Kogalymavia-operated airliner with 224 people on board crashed in the Sinai Peninsula en route from Sharm El-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, leaving no survivors. The crash is the largest disaster in the history of Russian civil aviation.

"Our country has again offered its condolences to the families of victims and also a strong solidarity with Russia. Terrorism is unacceptable regardless of the causes [of the plane crash]. Japan will work closely with the international community, including Russia, in order to prevent terrorist acts," Suga said at a press conference in Tokyo.
