MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The figures represent a 22-point increase since September in the number of polled people expressing their opposition to the arrival of asylum seekers, a survey carried out for The Times showed.
The pollster suggests the slump in public support may be linked to recent deadly terror attacks in Paris.
In the wake of the atrocities in the French capital, 79 percent of UK citizens participating in the questionnaire agreed that they feared Islamic State jihadists could launch similar attacks in Britain, with 37 percent of those responding claiming they were extremely worried, according to the poll.
On November 13, terrorists attacked several venues around Paris, killing 129 people and injuring over 350. ISIL, operating in Syria and Iraq, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
