WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States will continue to accept refugees following Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris, US Secretary of State John Kerry stated at the Overseas Security Advisory Council conference on Wednesday.
"We are going to visit and invite visitors. We are going to do the right thing by refugees. I mean, how is that somebody can suddenly say that a 50-year-old woman with her grandchildren is going to be a threat, that we can’t process people adequately to keep faith with our values in this country?" Kerry said.
Governors from at least 26 US states have announced they will not accept any Syrian refugees following last Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris that killed at least 132 people and left hundreds wounded.
Refugees of any nationality who are resettled in the United States go through several levels of screening before being admitted to the country, including undergoing interviews with the Department of Homeland Security and security checks by the Department of Defense, Federal Bureau of Investigation and multiple intelligence agencies.
