Canada will continue working with the international community on preventing terrorist attacks.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Canada will continue working with the international community on preventing terrorist attacks, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Department spokesperson Amy Mills told Sputnik on Thursday in response to a question whether the country will assist Russia in the Metrojet Airbus A321 crash investigation.

"We will continue to work closely with the international community to help prevent these terrible, inhumane acts," Mills told Sputnik. "Such violent extremism is a stark reminder of the grave threat that terrorism poses."

On October 31, Russia’s Metrojet airplane crashed in the Sinai Peninsula shortly after take off from Sharm el-Sheikh en route to St. Petersburg. All 224 people on board the airplane died in the crash.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin requested that the country’s Foreign Ministry asked all international partners for assistance in the investigation after Russia’s Federal Security Service ruled the airliner crashed as a result of a terrorist act.

Mills said that Canada had taken note of Russia’s conclusions about the crash being caused by an act of terrorism.

"We expect that those responsible for this attack will be brought to justice," she stated.

Mills added that Canadians grieved the tragic loss of life of the 224 people that died in the air disaster.
