MOSCOW (Sputnik) – "The President will remain in office for four years and may be reelected only once," the declaration, published late Wednesday, said.
The group issued its declaration after deliberations resulted in 16 constitutional amendments, including a two-term limit for presidents effective in 2017.
"[S]upport for the decision of President Rafael Correa not to participate in the next electoral process and support the consolidation of new political cadres," the declaration added.
Correa assumed office in 2007 and was reelected in 2009 and 2013.
