CAIRO (Sputnik) — Egypt plans to spend some 150 million Egyptian pounds ($18.7 million) for the complete upgrade of all security and control equipment in the country's airports, local media reported Thursday.
According to the Youm7 news outlet, citing sources in the Egyptian airports management company, an upgrade will take about 3-4 months. All X-ray detectors of baggage, cargo and metal detectors will be completely upgraded.
The project will be supported by the Egyptian Armed Forces, according to the news outlet.
It is reported that the previous facilities ensuring security in the Egyptian airports provided sufficient safety, however, an upgrade will help the airports to meet all the international requirements.
