MANILA (Sputnik) – Kawamura explained that Japan’s humanitarian mission should be understood as “providing aid to refugees and creating jobs, which should lower the level of extremism.”
“Japan will have its own vision on its contribution that it can do in the fight against this challenge. This will be a humanitarian mission. We’ve done this before and we’ll continue doing this,” Kawamura said.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is currently taking place in the Philippine capital of Manila, where the issue of the terrorism is high on the agenda.
On Wednesday, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said the country was ready to cooperate with Russia and other countries to defeat terrorism following Russian President Vladimir Putin's calls on international community to join its efforts in fighting against extremists.
