PARIS (Sputnik) — "According to our data, 966 people went to do jihad in Syria or Iraq. Of these, 142 people are dead and 247 people have returned to France," Valls said speaking at a session of the French National Assembly (lower house of parliament).
On Friday, terrorists attacked several venues around Paris, killing 129 people and injuring over 350. The Islamic State jihadist group, operating in Syria and Iraq, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
ISIL recruiters spread propaganda using online social networks, persuading primarily young people to join their ranks in Syria or Iraq, or to carry out attacks in their home countries.
