"We have consistently, in the course of several years, persistently called on our partners to combine efforts in the fight against the common threat of terrorism, to cooperate in an honest manner, on a collective basis, without politicizing this problem," Ilya Rogachev, head of the Department for New Challenges and Threats (DNCT) at the Foreign Ministry said in an interview with the Russian Kommersant newspaper to be published on Friday.
According to Rogachev, Moscow is holding constant dialogue with London on the A321 plane crash, also using information passed to Russian special services by American colleagues.
"As far as I know, certain information on the plane was passed to our side by American partners, competent authorities are working with it. The circumstances of the tragedy are being constantly discussed on various levels with the British side," the Russian diplomat said.
Russian Airbus A321 with 224 people on board crashed on October 31 while en route from Egypt’s resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, leaving no survivors. The incident has become the biggest tragedy in the history of Russian and Soviet civil aviation.
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin requested that the country’s Foreign Ministry ask all international partners for assistance in the investigation of the crash, after Russia’s Federal Security Service ruled the tragedy was caused by a terrorist act.
