NEW YORK (Sputnik) – A new Islamic State jihadist group propaganda video showing images of New York City landmarks reaffirms that terrorism targeting the city continues to be a threat, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) said in a statement.
"We are aware of the newly-released ISIS video that mentions Times Square," the NYPD said Wednesday. "While some of the video footage is not new, the video reaffirms the message that New York City remains a top terrorist target."
The NYPD added that there is no current threat to New York City, but that the NYPD will remain highly vigilant and work with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as well as other law enforcement agencies, to "keep the City of New York safe."
Heightened security has been implemented in New York City following terrorist attacks in Paris over the weekend that killed 129 people and injured over 350, many critically.
