US Congressman Stephen Lynch claims that the United States will still be able to meet its quota of resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees by 2016, despite new legislation adding delays to the process.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik), Leandra Bernstein — The United States will still be able to meet its quota of resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees by 2016, despite new legislation adding delays to the process, US Congressman Stephen Lynch told Sputnik on Thursday.

"I think it will cause a little bit of a delay," Lynch said of the bill that passed the US House of Representatives on Thursday afternoon.

Asked if the United States will meet its quota of resettling 10,000 Syrians over the next year, Lynch said, "By the end of 2016, yes."

The refugee bill adds new security requirements to the US resettlement program and prevents Syrian or Iraqi refugees from entering the United States until they are cleared through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence.
