Earlier on Friday, at least 10 armed militants took 170 people hostage at the Radisson Blu Hotel. According to the latest reports some 80 people have been freed.

Gunmen Take 170 Hostages in Hotel in Mali Capital
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French President Francois Hollande vowed Friday to provide all the assistance needed to Mali and its population amid the ongoing hotel siege in the country’s capital, local media reported Friday.

"I assure Malians of our solidarity and support," Hollande was quoted as saying by Le Figaro.

France will do everything possible to secure the release of the hostages held at Bamako hotel, the president stressed.

The president also asked the French nationals present in Mali to contact the Embassy of France in Bamako, according to the newspaper.
