Brussels Public Transport Halted in Wake of Paris Attacks
The Brussels metro is currently shut, and several tram lines are not operating, the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company said in a statement Saturday, in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — "The metro and pre-metro stations certainly remain closed until Sunday afternoon…It is a precautionary measure taken on the recommendation of the crisis center of the Interior [Ministry]," the company said in a statement on Facebook.
According to the company, 10 tram lines are also affected by the measures.
21 November 2015, 10:46 GMT
Earlier in the day, the crisis center raised the terror alert level in Brussels to level 4, the highest possible.
At least 130 people were killed and over 350 injured in suicide bombings and shootings near a football stadium, a concert hall and restaurants in the French capital on November 13.
Following the attacks in the French capital, the Belgian police have carried out a series of anti-terrorist operations detaining a number of people in the Molenbeek district, after it was revealed one of the attackers lived there.
Earlier this week, Belgian police detained 10 people in connection to the Paris attacks during a series of home raids across Brussels, according to media reports.
