The alleged victim, referred to in the suit as Jane Doe, was on a Department of Corrections bus inside the prison complex on March 20 when a male inmate bribed a correction officer to leave him alone with the female inmate, according to legal papers. The two inmates then allegedly had consensual sex.
The correction officer then returned to the bus, told the male inmate to leave, and raped Jane Doe, the suit states. During the rape, another officer climbed on board the bus. The rapist allegedly wanted to “give [him] a show.”
“Doe considered screaming out but chose not to scream because she realized that any officers who might respond from the [prison] were apt to be male and Doe was frightened that they might assault her as well,” the suit reads.
The suit claims Rikers has a culture of rape and seeks unspecified damages.
“We will review the specific claims once we receive the complaint,” said a city Law Department spokesman in an interview with the New York Post.
