MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Sunday, media reports suggested that 99 people died in the accident.
Migrant miners were searching for jade in piles of waste soil on the mountainside when the landslide occurred on Saturday in the Kachin State area of Hpakant.
According to The Global New Light of Myanmar, more than 100 people are still missing.
Authorities said this site and others had previously been designated at risk of landslides and notices had been issued to miners to not reside there, according to the media.
