BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin received a letter from European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker to establish closer ties between the two international organizations.
"The Commission is ready to consider this possible engagement… in consultations with [EU] member states and what is crucial in synchronization with the implementation of Minsk [agreement]," Schinas said.
He added that a vision of a humanitarian and economic space between the two unions was a commitment undertaken in support of the Minsk peace deal.
In February 2015, an agreement on Ukrainian reconciliation was signed between Kiev and eastern Ukraine militia in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. The agreement included a truce, weapon withdrawal, prisoner swaps and constitutional changes.
The West blames Moscow for an alleged involvement in the Ukraine crisis, including military supplies to the militias. Russia has denied the claims.
