Russia is planning to expand trade with Iran and use national currencies in bilateral payments, President Vladimir Putin said Monday.

TEHRAN (Sputnik) – Earlier this month, Moscow announced it might loan Iran $5-billion from its budget, and state corporation Vnesheconombank will disburse an additional $2 billion for the implementation of joint projects.

"We saw that a large set of documents, which is supposed to stimulate cooperation in various spheres, was signed just now. We shall pay necessary attention to diversification of commodity nomenclature, make greater use of national currencies in bilateral payments," Putin told a press conference after talks with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Tehran.

Putin also reiterated Russia’s commitment to give Iran a $5-billion export loan for implementation of joint projects.

"We shall continue the mutually beneficial cooperation in the nuclear energy [sphere]," Putin added.

In July, Tehran and the P5+1 group of international mediators, comprising Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, signed an agreement ensuring the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for international sanctions' easing.

In December, Moscow is planning to send a large trade delegation to Iran to boost industrial exports, as the sanctions on Iran are expected to be gradually lifted, allowing more profound cooperation.
