WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Over the weekend, Belgium raised its terror threat alert to the highest level in Brussels over fears that a Paris-like attack could be carried out in its capital.
"The US Embassy in Brussels informs US citizens that the current threat level remains at Level 4 (serious threat of imminent attack) for Brussels and Level 3 (high) for the rest of the country," the statement said on Tuesday.
The US embassy told Americans to avoid large public gatherings and shopping centers. The statement added, Belgium planned to "gradually" lift some restrictions on its metro system and reopen public schools in Brussels by Wednesday.
On November 13, terrorists carried out mass shootings and suicide bombings near a football stadium, in a concert hall and outside several restaurants in Paris, leaving 130 dead and over 360 injured.
