Gallic Might: Charles de Gaulle Aircraft Carrier Deployed Against ISIL

The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier is deployed to the eastern Mediterranean to take part in intensified air strikes against Islamic State targets. The deployment follows the coordinated attacks in the French capital that killed 130 people and left more than 350 others injured.

The carrier has a crew of about 1,900 seamen, pilots and technicians.

The French media reported that the Charles de Gaulle's mission is expected to last at least four months but that it may be prolonged.

Earlier it was reported that the Charles de Gaulle will be joined by an anti-submarine frigtate La Motte-Picquet, a multi-purpose frigate Aquitaine and an auxiliary ship called Aviation.

The carrier's exact location remains secret due to security concerns.
