Charles de Gaulle, aircraft carrier flagship of the French Navy, was deployed to the eastern Mediterranean to boost operations in Syria as Paris intensifies its bombing campaign against the Islamic State group there.
A picture taken on November 21, 2015 shows an aerial view of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, in the eastern Mediterranean sea. The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier is deployed to the eastern Mediterranean to take part in intensified air strikes against Islamic State targets. The deployment follows the coordinated attacks in the French capital that killed 130 people and left more than 350 others injured.
Earlier it was reported that the Charles de Gaulle will be joined by an anti-submarine frigtate La Motte-Picquet, a multi-purpose frigate Aquitaine and an auxiliary ship called Aviation.
The carrier's exact location remains secret due to security concerns.
