MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition and Russia do not cooperate enough while conducting military air operations in Syria against the Islamic State terrorist group, NATO’s former Secretary General Xavier Solana said Tuesday.
"Too many planes of different countries and little cooperation in use of the airspace," Solana wrote on his Twitter page commenting on the news that Turkey had downed a Russian bomber aircraft.
On Tuesday, the Russian Su-24M jet crashed in Syria. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the plane was downed by an air-to-air missile launched by a Turkish F-16 jet over the Syrian territory, and fell 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from the Turkish border. Putin described the Turkish attack as a “stab in the back” carried out by “accomplices of terrorists.”
