WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US billionaire and Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump and Texas Senator Ted Cruz have taken the lead in the latest public opinion poll ahead of the upcoming Iowa caucus, a new survey revealed on Tuesday.
"Donald Trump gets 25 percent of Iowa likely Republican Caucus participants in a too-close-to- call race with Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas who is at 23 percent, double his support from four weeks ago," the Quinnipiac University poll said.
Meanwhile, 49 percent of respondents said that Trump is the best candidate to handle the economy, followed by Cruz who received 11 percent support. Thirty percent of the polled also favored Trump when it came to handling terrorism, while 20 percent supported Cruz.
The results of the poll come before candidates head to the Iowa caucus in February when delegates will be elected to take part in the national party convention to choose the Republican presidential nominee.
