MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Some 150 demonstrators shouted "16 times!" in reference to the number of shots officer CPD officer Jason Van Dyke fired at the 17-year old teenager called Laquan McDonald, the Chicago Tribune said.
Activists then marched toward the city center accompanied by police on bikes and in squad cars. At one point, protesters locked their hands around several police vehicles.
Their number reportedly reached 300 by the time demonstrators reached the Balbo Avenue bridge where they confronted police. At least three were taken into custody and once officer required medical help, the Chicago outlet said.
After the release of the graphic dash-cam video, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel urged people to maintain peace, and show unity and understanding.
On Tuesday, Van Dyke turned himself in at Cook County Courthouse, and Illinois prosecutors charged him with first degree murder for shooting McDonald multiple times on October 20, 2014.
