TOKYO (Sputnik) — According to the broadcaster TBS, around 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of amphetamines were packed in coffee bags.

The drugs were contained in the personal luggage of 45-year-old citizen of Uganda Samuel Karamagi, who arrived to Tokyo's Haneda Airport from Abu Dhabi.

The suspect has been detained, according to the broadcaster. He has denied his guilt, claiming he bought coffee bags in a supermarket in Uganda at his friend's request and had no idea that they contained drugs.

Tokyo police are trying to figure out how the batch of amphetamines were supposed to make their way on to the black market.
