"We have information that oil and gas deposits on the shelf, on the Syrian coast have enormous potential," Muallem stressed.
A Russian company has already signed a respective contract, and the Syrian authorities expect that other companies will follow suit, since Damascus is ready to provide any benefits to Russian entrepreneurs, he noted.
"We hope that not only Russian warships, but also oil drilling platforms will be present on the Syrian shores," the Syrian diplomat stressed.
In particular, there is information that the oil fields near the northwestern Syrian city of Baniyas could be among the richest in the whole Mediterranean, he outlined.
