MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier on Thursday, prosecutors requested an Istanbul court to arrest Cumhuriyet newspaper Editor-in-Chief Can Dundar and the daily’s Ankara representative Erdem Gul after both journalists were summoned to Istanbul Courthouse to testify. They face espionage and treason charges.
POSITION: We denounce Turkey's attempts to prosecute @cumhuriyetgzt staff for 'espionage'. Wrong when US does it. Wrong when Turkey does it.

The controversial article and footage released by Cumhuriyet in May claimed that the trucks were carrying containers with artillery shells, machine gun rounds and mortar shells to Syrian opposition forces.
Ankara refuted the media reports, insisting that the vehicles were delivering aid to Syrian Turkmens and the allegations were nothing but insinuations.
