MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom is ready to develop cooperation on fast-neutron reactors with Japan, a technology considered to be the future of nuclear energy, the company’s deputy director said Friday.
"We are ready for broad international cooperation on this topic, including with Japanese companies if they are interested," Kirill Komarov said.
The official noted that as yet there has been no substantive discussion on the issue.
According to Komarov, Russia has a lot of experience in fast neutron technology, operating several reactors using the technology.
In April, Komarov announced that Rosatom would continue developing joint peaceful nuclear energy projects with Japan, including the enrichment of Japanese reprocessed uranium.
In 2009, Russia and Japan signed a cooperative agreement on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
