WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Hundreds of African-American protesters took to the streets of Chicago Wednesday, in the US state of Illinois overnight after police released a video that showed a white officer unload his gun into a teen.
"There were 2,000 to 3,000 people involved in the protest [on Michigan Avenue in the heart of Chicago’s shopping district]," Chapman said on Friday. "Another protest meeting will be held on Saturday at 63rd Street and Cottage Grove."
The protest was held days after the Chicago authorities finally released to the public a video that showed 17-year-old McDonald being shot 16 times by police officer Jason Van Dyke on October 20, 2014.
"The protest was a call for people to boycott the business district because the whole political system is involved: They sat on the video for a whole year. The police chief knew, the mayor knew. They all knew. This is a videotape of a murder, an execution," Chapman noted.
There probably will be more protests in major shopping districts of the city, Chapman pointed out, asking rhetorically why should there not be demonstrations.
