Assisted by Russian forces, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has made impressive progress in the past 24 hours destroying ISIL, al-Nusra Front and other militant targets in the key provinces of Idlib, Latakia, Daraa, Sweida, Homs, Aleppo and Damascus, Fars News reported.

The operations were carried out at the Bab Hawa border crossing in the Idlib province, the al-Aslaha village and the town of al-Saqiyeh in Sweida, the town of Talbiseh in Homs, as well as various localities in southern Aleppo.

The Damascus-led forces freed Tel al-Satrak in Latakia, as well as Tlol Um Kadom, Dahrat al-Said, Jabal al-Ramila and Tolol al-Sood in the province of Homs. The SAA destroyed several militant strongholds, military hardware and outposts killing dozens of terrorists across the country, the news agency noted.

Syrian Army Advances, Beats Back Terrorist Counterattack Near Palmyra
The Syrian Army reportedly killed three senior commanders of the Free Syrian Army in the province of Latakia. One of them, Rasheed Bikdash, who the media outlet described as one of the "Mujahidin Army" leaders, is said to be "the highest-ranking defector" from the SAA.

In addition, ISIL fighters are said to be fleeing to Palmyra from the neighboring town of al-Qaryatayn in Homs as the Syrian Army is gradually preparing to retake the world-famous ancient ruins.

Various radical groups, including ISIL and al-Nusra Front, have been trying to overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad for nearly five years. On September 30, Russia launched an aerial campaign sending Su-24M, Su-25 and Su-34 warplanes to conduct precision strikes on ISIL and other terrorist targets in Syria at the request of Damascus.
