"The University of Chicago has received confirmation from the FBI that an individual is in custody in connection with yesterday’s threat against the University," the school’s president Robert Zimmer said in a statement on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, the Chicago Tribune reported that authorities charged 21-year-old University of Chicago engineering student Jabari Dean with threatening to kill students and staff in retaliation for the fatal shooting of African-American teen Laquan McDonald.
Dean allegedly threatened to shoot police, staff and students on Monday morning and then kill himself, but authorities managed to track down the student and apprehend him, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Zimmer explained that classes at the university would remain cancelled for the day, while increased security measures would also continue.
